Reflection Unit 8

Unit 8 is the Networking unit and I have learned quite a lot from this unit as I had not given networking much thought in the past, I have learned about the different types of transition media, the topologies, the access methods, the connection methods, the servers and the way that the information is passed.

There were a couple of parts that I had difficulty with, mainly the transition media as there are the speeds and the maximum distances and I just could not (and still can’t) get my head around them.

Whilst doing this unit there have been a couple of times at home where I have known what is happening and why I am using the type transition media.

Methods, Devices and Transmission media

 

I started the assignment on the 25/09/2009 and for the first hand in we had a week to compleat it (02/10/2009).

 

BTEC National IT Practitioners Book 2

 

 

I used the book (BTEC National IT Practitioners Book 2) to help with the completion of the assignment. When I got stuck with the work I asked my friend for help, I had forgotten about asking Karen though but on the due date I had been off sick which could have been why I had forgotten to ash her.

When I got the work back I had not Passed, I got this due to the fact that there was some parts missing and some of the parts were not explained well. There was also the fact that there were a few mistakes that I had missed when I proof read the work.

I have learned that I need to ask Karen for help when I get stuck and to add more detail to my work. I have also learned that there are lots of different types of transition media used in different ways in computing and this will help me if I am setting up a computer to any type of available connection.

Week one: Friday

Since the last entery I have helped in the creation of the website, in which I created two of the pages, also we have uploaded the site to the webserver and had them reviewed.

I have learned more about Photoshop but I am still a little but shaky with it, also i have learned about the new features of Dreamweaver, I like them but I cant see an application for them at this time on the websites.

I still need to learn to use Photoshop properly but that will happen when I have the time or in my free time.

I have enjoyed working in the group as we worked well with each other. I also enjoyed working in Dreamweaver as I had not used the Adobe CS3 Version of the software so it was good to find the differences.

A challenge was the creating of the website as there was not enough communication in the group but we managed.

I dont think that there is anything that I need to ask but I am sure something will crop up over the next couple of days.

I am looking forward to starting the actual Units next week, I have a feeling that it is going to be difficult but I shal cope, Just.

I am setting my self a target, this is to proof read work before it is submitted or published. I am finding mistakes in my Blog posts just after it has been published and it is annoying having to go back and change it.

Week One: Tuesday

We did go to dockside yesterday, in the group that I was in we got a couple of pictures before we were told that we could not take photos in Dockside so we left, today we have designed the website and the other members in the group have started to edit the photos and scan in the Map of Dockside.

I have learned that the security people at Dockside Lie, they told Karen that there was a sign on the door that said no photography, there was not one, and that designing things as a part of a group project is harder that working individually.

I still need to learn how to use Photoshop so I can try that tomorrow during my “Private Study” time.

I have enjoyed working with different people and being out of college at Dockside as i dont get down there that often.

The only challenge was the designing of the website as we all had to contribute to the design of the website but we got there in the end.

I still need to scan the designs in to the computer and i have no idea how i am going to do that before 09:00 in the Morning.

I am looking forward to the actual creation of the website when we get there as it will mean working with a newer version of Dreamweaver as the college now has the whole of Adobe CS3 and I am used to Macromedia Studio 8, there wont be that much difference but I am looking forward to finding what is.

Week One: Monday

We learned the names of the other members of the group along with there hobbies. This was done with the game “grandma’s Basket” and on the 1st game we remembered the names, and the second was the hobbies.

After that we were given 3 Post-it’s each a different colour, Blue Yellow and Pink, and on each we had to write about our carer goals, on the blue Post-It we wrote our prefered Job, for me was an IT Teacher, on the yellow one it was the skill that would be important to that job and on the Pink on it was the ideal location for that job.

So far I have learned that the names of all of the members of the group and that the hobbies of most of the group is Football.

I am going to have to learn how to use a piece of software as I have not used it before, this piece of software is Photoshop.

So far I have enjoyed all of the activities, and found it funny when people got the names wrong.

The memory aspect of the game was a challenge for me but I did manage to remember all of the names but not necessarily in the correct order.

I May have a play arround with Photoshop so I can get used to it and I can do this during a break or when I have some free time.

I am looking to going to Dockside later on today as I will be able to use the new shuttle bus for the college to get there.
